The problem
Pakistan’s grassroots communities, a significant gap in sexual and reproductive health services is worsened by language barriers, cultural stigmas, and limited healthcare access, resulting in inadequate awareness and risky practices.
The Solution
The findings from our initial stage of data collection underscore a critical issue: there exists a pronounced societal stigma surrounding men seeking information on sexual and reproductive health.
Results from our first stage of data collection showed that there is greater stigma for men to seek information on sexual and reproductive health and without involvement of men, we cannot ensure access of SRHR services to women.
- Pakistan’s Contraceptive Prevalence Rate (CPR) has stagnated at 35%
- 49% of young girls have no knowledge of menstruation prior to their first period (UNICEF)
- Approximately 20% of married adolescent women between the ages of 15 and 19 in Pakistan have started childbearing without access to programs that would provide them with information and support to make informed and voluntary decisions about their reproductive health and rights (Guttmacher Institute)
- There are an estimated 617,000 pregnancies occurring among adolescent girls aged 15-19 years in Pakistan. Out of these pregnancies, approximately 36% are unintended, and more than half (58%) of unintended pregnancies end in abortion (Guttmacher Institute).
